Upcoming Season Q&A

We’ll keep a running list of questions from League members here as we approach the Winter 2021-2022 Season. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we navigate through this season start under new pandemic rules. Our hope is to return to normal operations eventually as the pandemic subsides, but for the time being, we ask for your understanding as we try to make this as safe, fair and fun for everyone.

I registered, but didn’t receive a confirmation. Is this normal?
Yes, but if you are uncertain, please contact us and we will let you know.

Why aren’t evals being held this season?
Due to this being our first season back from a lengthy pandemic hiatus, we decided it was more important to focus on getting everyone back on the ice safely. We felt the quickest and most fair way was to start up where everyone was placed in the last season they played in NCWHL. We know some of you have worked hard to get ready to move up divisions and sincerely hope you will understand this temporary hold on evaluations.

I’m brand new to NCWHL. How will I be placed in a division?
The placement coordinator will reach out to you to determine your playing history and select an appropriate division for you. You will need to formally evaluate at the beginning of next season.

I’m returning to NCWHL after an extended time off. How will I be placed? Will I need to be evaluated?
For this season, you will be placed in the last division you skated in, however you will need to formally re-evaluate at the beginning of next season.

Will you make an exception if I have not had the COVID vaccine?
Sorry, at this time, we cannot make an exception.

If I am unable to play this season for any reason, will my 2020 Summer credit roll over?
Absolutely. We will hold onto your credit and you can apply it toward any future season. Or if you wish to request a refund, contact us at ncwhl.secretary@gmail.com.

How much does this season cost and will it be regular length?
You can find season fees on our Registration page. If all goes well (Covid and all), we are expecting a regular length season. Number of games will depend on registration numbers and how many teams we end up with. It will likely be close to a typical NCWHL season.

Your Own Adventure –
Creating a Path You Can Follow

Can opportunities arise from our toughest challenge?
How scary is self-reflection?
Can you really win a game without a goalie in net?
What matters most?

We’re taught from a young age to plan so we can navigate life, no one ever asks what you’ll do when things don’t go according to plan. With societal guides, attitudes and choices to pick from it should be easy, but being our own authentic, best selves can be a confusing unmapped journey. Learn about different ways to look at life and chart your own personal adventure while having fun exploring how to round out your approach. And how to play either side of a game with only one goalie.

About Archie Kinnear

Archie Kinnear was fortunate to be born in Scotland, Glasgow to be exact into a family obsessed with music. He was born in 1968, so the music was rich and inspirational.

Being self-taught for the most part, Archie found it easy to flip between most instruments, yes including Bagpipes, until eventually Archie stuck with guitar although he can play most things in varying degrees of competency.

Archie had some success with bands in Scotland and Madrid. He tried to live the life of a musician until realising that there generally is little money to be had anymore. He was fortunate to play with a couple of bands doing session work with a local recording studio and radio stations (Radio Clyde) which led him to recording and production.

Archie built my home studio to allow me to record a 4 track EP under the name of 7eventh Machine entitled Highwire.. available on all streaming services!! Archie’s long-time friend Paul sang, while Archie played all instruments and did recording and production. It took just over 6 months to complete the master and release.

Understanding the 2020 Election

Interpreting data and rhetoric in a high-stakes political climateCutting through misleading information to make more informed decisions

As we near the 2020 election and wade through the associated barrage of political messaging, our brains are tasked with making sense of a tremendous amount of content. The high stakes of this particular election amplify how important it is to interpret this content accurately. Jen will share practical tips and strategies to avoid rhetorical traps, interpret confusing or misleading information, and draw informed conclusions.

About Jen Bland

Jen’s expertise in the intersection of data, rhetoric, and public policy stems from her graduate work and professional background spanning nearly 15 years as a social science researcher and consultant, with a particular focus on translating research findings across constituencies.
