Community Outreach: Children’s Book Project

Donation Box is at Nazareth Ice Oasis, San Mateo, along the wall by the dressing area.

Our next Community Outreach effort will be to collect for the Children’s Book Project. You can learn more about it here: childrensbookproject.org/

Please bring your new or very gently used books to any game you have in San Mateo for the entire month of June. We will be collecting books there. Please remember these books are going to children in high need areas and we really want to support their love for and valuing of books. Please only donate books of condition and quality in service of those values.

From Children’s Book Project:

We always need new or gently used, recent-vintage books for children of all ages, from infants through teens.

We especially need:

  • board books
  • early readers
  • elementary chapter books
  • books in Spanish or Chinese
  • graphic novels
  • popular series for 8-12 year olds

We can’t use and don’t accept:

  • textbooks and curriculum materials
  • encyclopedias
  • audio cassettes and VHS tapes
  • library discards
  • obsolete books
  • dirty, dusty, wet, or mildewed books
  • nonfiction over ten years old

If you can’t donate books but still want to help, please consider making a donation on behalf of NCWHL to the Children’s Book Project. You can donate directly on their website here:

Please contact Eula at ncwhl.community@gmail.com if you have any questions! Thank you for helping our league make a positive impact on our community!

NCWHL Scrimmage at SAP Center for Volunteers

To thank the NCWHL, Katie Holmgren/USA Hockey organized a scrimmage at SAP Center in San Jose. We invited all of our dedicated League volunteers, captains and coaches for this special one-time event.

Upon arrival, we found 50+ girls in hockey gear running around in the lobby reminding us that our work promoting women’s hockey in the Bay Area has gone a long way! It was a great kickoff to the next day’s exciting game between the USA and Canadian women’s national teams. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers! Without your help, the NCWHL wouldn’t be where we are today.
